How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

Published on

New double-pane windows give you a variety of incentives for homeowners in Baltimore, one being improved energy efficiency. Whether you’re researching online or with an expert at a showroom, energy efficiency is a critical factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great choice if you’re searching for improved efficiency.

Many new double-pane windows are filled with argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is denser than air, which offers additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you see that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you may have developed a greater leak and the gas has been substituted with moisture. There are a few things that you can do to determine if this is the case:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to ensure that the condensation or fog you’re looking at is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you determine the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can get ahold of the manufacturer to determine if you can claim it under your warranty.
Depending on the age of your windows and the conditions surrounding the leak, it may make sense to take a look at replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important aspects of your windows, and if that is altered it can impact your heating and cooling costs.
